It can be a bit daunting to set up a course in Canvas for the first time. In order to help OSU instructors get a running start, we are providing an OSU Canvas template for campus-based courses. This template models one way to structure a basic course, and offers guidance on adding and organizing course content. It does not prescribe course content; you may modify to suit your needs. See a read-only version of the OSU Canvas template for campus-based courses, or the OSU remote and blended teaching Canvas template.

The template resides on Canvas Commons, a place to share and find courses, assignments and more.

To find the templates on Commons and import into your Canvas course site:

  1. Open an empty Canvas course to which you want to import the template.
  2. On the Home page of your course, click the "Import from Commons" button at the upper right corner.
  3. Enter "Oregon State Remote and Blended Teaching Template," "OSU Canvas Template" or "OSU Hybrid Canvas Template" in the search bar.
  4. Click on the search result with the same name to open the template's resource page in Canvas Commons.
  5. Check the box next to the name of the empty Canvas course (from step 1) in the "Import into Canvas box on the right side of the page.
  6. Click the "Import into Course" button.
