What is Gradescope?
Gradescope is a feedback and assessment tool that is widely used at Oregon State University for delivering and grading exams (including bubble sheet exams), homework, and other assignments remotely or in the classroom. Gradescope enables instructors and graders to give more consistent and more timely feedback, resulting in improved learning outcomes. AI-assisted grading on some assignment types allows instructors to automatically group similar answers and grade all the answers in each group at once. Gradescope also helps with grading programming assignments at scale and can automatically grade scanned bubble sheet exams.
A few highlights include:
-
Dynamic rubrics help streamline grading while increasing grading consistency and decreasing bias
-
Various assignment types, ranging from fully online with many question types to handwritten, or a combination of the two
-
A faculty member may review all grading by a single TA and quickly make adjustments
-
The analytics provide both summary statistics and detailed item analysis
In summer 2022, the Gradescope integration in Canvas was updated. The update improves privacy and security of the integration, and does not change Gradescope functionality. There are minor faculty workflow changes when establishing links between Canvas and Gradescope courses and assignments.
