Duo required for Canvas access

Starting December 15, 2020 Duo authentication will be required to access Canvas from the web and Canvas mobile apps. This change will be consistent with the login experience for most other OSU IT services, and will improve security for the OSU community. Users who access Canvas with a personal account (e.g., PACE, Faculty Staff Fitness, Studio sites) will not be required to use Duo to log in. Questions about Duo? See the Duo FAQ.

Canvas Updates

The Rich Content Editor (RCE) will be updated at the end of fall term. This change will significantly impact the look and feel of the RCE, but will have the same functionality as the old RCE plus some new features. Review some of the major changes to the RCE and Canvas documentation for the new RCE.

Faculty can now create groups through a CSV file upload in Canvas courses.

Canvas ePortfolios are being removed from Canvas at the end of fall term. Users are encouraged to use the free Folio (by Portfolium) tool available in Canvas instead. This change allows users to retain access to their portfolios after leaving the university.

Proctoring

Proctorio and People Powered Proctoring will both be available in winter term. More information, including frequently asked questions for students and faculty can be found on the OSU Proctoring Options website.

Top Hat Updates

Instructors can now configure their attendance settings in the Top Hat gradebook. When enabled, the hybrid attendance setting attaches a question to each attendance session in the course, asking students to specify whether they are attending class in person or remotely.

Gradescope Updates

Gradescope has an expanded video collection for help topics. Faculty can share links to the videos, such as how to view published grades and feedback, with students.

Gradescope is working on a new feature called Assignment Versioning, which will work for all instructor-uploaded assignments including bubble sheet assignments. Contact Gradescope to learn more or be part of their beta testing of the feature.
