Canvas

Instructors can set up quizzes and surveys in Canvas. Most question types are “self-graded” so that scores are automatically calculated in the Gradebook. This makes it easy for you and your students to get rapid feedback on how well they are learning concepts and skills. New to Canvas? Create a Quiz

1. Click Quizzes on the course navigation menu, and click the black “+ Quiz” button near the top-right of the page
2. Select your Quiz Type
3. Select your Quiz Settings
   • It is generally best to uncheck the box next to "Let Students See their Quiz Responses". Review Quiz Settings and Student View for Quiz Results for more information.
4. Click Save at the bottom of the quiz Settings page to save your progress
5. Click Edit to begin adding questions to your quiz

Add Questions

1. Click the Questions tab located underneath the quiz title field
2. Add questions to your quiz using one or a combination of the following methods:
   • Individual Questions Created in a Quiz - scroll to the Add Question section
   • Copied Questions from a Question Bank - scroll to the Find Quiz Question section
   • Randomized Question Groups - scroll to Add New Question Group section
3. Click Save at the bottom of the quiz Questions page to save your progress

Some things to remember when working with quiz questions:

• You must click Update Question before clicking Save any time you change a question to save your changes. Your changes will be lost if you click Save at the bottom of the quiz first.
• Adding a question to a quiz from a question bank creates a copy of the question. if the question had a mistake in the question bank, you'll need to fix the question in both locations.
• Adding a name to your questions can help you find and re-use your questions later on. Question names are not visible to students.

Question Banks

• Question Banks are repositories of questions that can be added to quizzes across courses; i.e., all of the Question Banks you create are available to all of the courses in which you are listed as a Teacher.
• Questions copied from a question bank are not linked and mistakes or errors need to be corrected in both the Question Bank and the quiz, unless you created a Question Group linked to a Question Bank in your quiz.
• You can move or copy individual questions from one Question Bank to another.
• You can import Question Banks from one Canvas course to another. This will create copies of all questions within the Question Banks. Mistakes or errors will need to be corrected in both Question Banks.

Preview and Manage the Quiz

• Use Student View to preview the quiz and quiz settings.
• While it is possible to make changes after the quiz is published, students who have already opened the quiz may not see the changes and their scores may be impacted. Please contact [email protected] for more information before making changes to a Canvas quiz. Review information on what regrade options are available in Canvas.
• Moderate the quiz to give students extra time or extra attempts.

Quiz and Survey Results

• Use SpeedGrader to view and grade essay, short-answer, and file upload question types. Use fudge points to adjust a student's quiz score if necessary.
• Individual practice quiz submissions and ungraded survey results cannot be viewed in SpeedGrader.
• Use Quiz Statistics to view or download quiz or survey results, and use the Quiz Log to view more information on a student's quiz attempt.
